| Scientific Background: | SMARCD1 is a subunit of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex. The SWI/SNF family members are known to display helicase and ATPase activities and regulate transcription of certain genes by altering chromatin structure. The encoded protein is part of the large ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex SNF/SWI and has sequence resemblance to the yeast Swp73 protein. Two transcript variants encoding distinctive isoforms have been identified for this gene. |
