It activates ubiquitin by adenylating the C-terminal glycine residue with ATP and subsequently linking the adenylatedglycine to the side chain of a cysteine residue in E1 thereby forming a ubiquitin-E1 thioester. UBA1 is also required for DNA repairresponse to replication stress. |
